Philosopher and economist Daniel Chandler uses the writings of John Rawls to make the case for a renewed democracy. Chandler argues that Rawls’s ideas can help us build a fairer society, from strengthening democracy to tackling inequality. Chandler argues for a society where basic freedoms are secure and genuinely protected (not just paper rights). A society where opportunity is actually fair (not dominated by class background or inherited advantage), and where economic rules distribute power and resources so that prosperity is shared and inequalities justified by improving the position of the least advantaged.
